Tools of the trade
Here’s a quick run down of my tools of the trade.
Canon 40D
Canon 400D
Canon Speedlite 430 EX
Canon 50mm f1.8
Canon 50mm f1.4
Canon 85mm f1.8
Tamron 28 – 75mm f2.8
Canon 70 – 200 mm f2.8 L
For those people looking for recommendations about what to buy as a first up package for live music photography I would suggest buying a bottom of the range SLR, Canon or Nikon, with a 50mm f1.8 lens. Spend lots of time shooting and then start upgrading your lens collection.

Wow, just came across your blog listed at photoblogs.org and followed the link to your Flickr stuff. You’ve got an amazing eye – your shots are filled with light, mystery, interest, enchantment! The compositions and the use of color and light are outstanding.
There’s a whole world of concert photos but yours are among the most intriguing I’ve seen. Congratulations on following your passion – it comes through loud and clear in your images.
You may not wish to be a pro-photog, but my premonition is that the people you’re photographing will ask you to become one. Your images of these musicians are flattering, yes, but more importantly, they reach into the character of the performer. That’s not easy to pull off and you have a gift for it.
Some of the young musicians you’re photographing today will become very successful, maybe even “household words” – and they’ll want you along for the trip.
Glad I found you! Keep shooting.
